HOUSES AND GARDENS

Our residential design work includes new single family homes, infill housing on urban lots, additions, transformations, and gardens. We help our clients envision a way of living that is open and engaging but that also provides space for reflection and retreat.

We have worked on many iconic houses, from a white-painted Federal Style sea captain's house on the main street of Newburyport to a mid-century modern house in the utopian Five Fields neighborhood of Lexington, Massachusetts. We respect the intrinsic nature of these structures while drawing upon our knowledge of contemporary building design and construction practice.

When designing new houses and gardens, we produce work that is modern, inventive, and attuned to environmental concerns. These range from a family home adjoining conservation land in Lincoln, Massachusetts, to a hillside retreat in Charlottesville, Virginia, overlooking the Blue Ridge Mountains.
